Obituary of Bob Harvey
Services for Bob Harvey, 79, Overton, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 17, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with the Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors, will be in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mr. Harvey died Saturday, February 14, 2009, in Tyler. He was born May 30, 1929, in San Angelo and was a lifelong resident of Overton.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force following 20 years of service. He was a radar operator and controller. He served with the German occupation forces and received the Medal for Humane Action during the Berlin Air Lift. Following his service career, he graduated from Commonwealth College of Mortuary Sciences, Houston and received his Funeral Directors and Embalmers licenses in 1969. He had been employed by Pearson Funeral Home, Overton since 1969 and served as Manager of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton from 1983 until his semiretirement in 1994. He continued to work at the funeral home until 2006.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie B. Harvey, in 1987 and by his sister, Faye Weeks.
Mr. Harvey was a former member of the Overton Rotary Club and had served as its president. He was a member of the Hall Brothers VFW Post, Overton. Mr. Harvey attended the Lutheran Church in Kilgore.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David L. and Margie Harvey, Gilmer and Richard M. and Cissey Harvey, Whitehouse; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenny Guilbeau, Bryan; a friend, Everett Harshell, Overton; three brothers, Horace Harvey, Jacksonville, Jim Harvey, Lone Star, and Bill Harvey, Little Rock, Arkansas; two grandsons, Jeremy Harvey and Bryan Harvey; two great-grandchildren, Colton Harvey and Kara Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, February 16.
