Obituary of Billy Utsey

Funeral services for Billy Dee Utsey, 73, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 22, at the First Baptist Church, Overton, with the Reverends Wes Bynum, Charles Paschall, and Bill Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Utsey died Thursday, January 19, 2006. He was born October 27, 1932 in Jacksonville to the late D.W. and Lillie Belle Seeley Utsey. He was a 1950 graduate of London High School and received his degree in chemistry from Baylor University in 1954. He was president of J.W. Green Contractors, Inc. for 50 years. He served as President of the Overton Rotary Club in 1961 and was President of the Overton Chamber of Commerce in 1967 and 1971. In 1971, he was named OvertonÕs Citizen of the Year. Mr. Utsey was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton. He married Patricia Ann Richardson November 4, 1955 in Overton. She preceded him in death December 5, 2003, after 48 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Berry. Mr. Utsey is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicki Utsey and Melinda and Steve Wedgeworth, all of Overton, Cheryl and Jerry Thornton, Longview, and Teresa and Boyd Kent, China Spring; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and James Florence, Bryan; eight grandchildren, Kyle Bobbitt, Corey and his wife, Leah Bobbitt, Bailey Wedgeworth and Beth Ann Wedgeworth, Blake Parker and Brittany and her husband, J.D. Cutler, Chelsea Kent, and Taylor Kent; and three great grandchildren, Madison Bobbitt, Allison Bobbitt and Carson Bobbitt. Pallbearers will be John Wilson, Jack Waldie, Dr. James Hamilton, Jerry Cart, Walker Green Harman, and Milton McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be Scooter Phillips, Floyd Sartors, Dr. Paul Arnold, Ed Stone, and James D. Willborn.
