Obituary of Opal Childress
Services for Opal Ledford Childress, 91, Troup, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, April 1 at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel with the Reverends M.H. Klink and Bill Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Henry's Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Childress died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her nephew's residence. She was born January 5, 1920, in Cherokee County to the late Finis W. and Helen Brewer Ledford and had been a lifetime resident of Troup.
She owned and operated Childress Dry Goods, and had worked for Barron's Store and Blue Flame Gas.
Mrs. Childress was a member of the Martin's Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Bessie Epperson Ledford; her brother, Marquell Ledford; and two sisters, Melba Wilson and Doris Kee.
Survivors include a sister, Delight Hamilton, Troup; numerous nieces and nephews including, Eudell and Donna Hamilton, Troup; Don and Inez Hamilton, Arp and Cheryl and Bill Riley, Kilgore; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Pete Ledford, Tim Martin, Blake McElroy, Roger McElroy, Junior Hamilton, Delbert Hamilton, and Wayne Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Brown, Robert Sadler, and Jerry Kerr.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 31.
