Obituary of Iris Harris

Services for Iris Harris, 83, Troup are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Monday, January 26, at the First Baptist Church, Troup with the Reverends James Cheatham and Mike Jeter officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mrs. Harris died Saturday, January 24, 2009 in a Whitehouse nursing home. She was born July 31, 1925, in Stamps, Arkansas to the late Alvin and Allie Marie Hodnett Tucker. She had been a resident of Troup since 1950. Mrs. Harris had worked in the accounting department at Phillips Chevrolet, Troup and Jacksonville, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup. She married William David 'Bill' Harris, Sr. in Troup, May 5, 1950. He preceded her in death July 20, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Noel Lynn Tucker and three sisters, Evelyn Millican, Gracie Grantley, and Dossie 'Dot' Bedgood. Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Shelba Harris, Little Rock, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Joe Musslewhite, Troup; two sisters, Bennie Jean Willis, New Waverly and Clara McDonald, Lewisville, Arkansas; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Alan 'Speedy' Wilkerson, Jason and Jennifer Harris, and Casey Harris; three great-grandchildren, Austin Wilkerson, Bailey Wilkerson, and Bryce Wilkerson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Wendel Womack, G. W. Howell, Neal Harbeson, Joe Layne, and Jason Harris, Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Wilkerson, Casey Harris, and Buster Ledford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 25.
