Obituary of Vernon Walker

Services for Vernon Roy Walker, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, January 2, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Mason Cemetery, Arp. Mr. Walker died Tuesday, December 30, in Kilgore. He was born Janaury 6, 1918 to the late William Pinkney Walker and Mary Bell Spears Walker. He retired from the oil field and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Overton. He loved all outdoor sports and was an avid fisherman. He was a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Estelle Pace Walker, a daughter and son, Peggy Louise Walker and Roy Waylon Walker; brothers and sisters, Martha Elizabeth Pace, Mary Francis Hogan, William Charles Walker, and James Edward Walker; and two great-grandchild, Natasha Wynette King and Sophie Walker. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Earl and Myrtle Louise Walker of Longview; a daughter, Carolyn Kay Cooper of Joinerville; and a daughter-in-law, Erma Lee Walker of Longview; three brothers, Jake Walker of Carthage, Franklin Walker and William Pinkney Walker, Jr. of Gladewater; two sisters, Leatrice B. Calliway of Humble and Jewell Faye Stephenson of Gladewater; 9 grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Roy Walker, Donnie Walker, Perry Walker, Terry Walker, Charlie Walker, and Nathan Featherly. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Roy Walker, Jarvis 'J.J.' King, and James Young. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 1.
