Obituary of H.D. Stallings
Services for H. D. Stallings, 89, New Summerfield, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 16, at Southside Church of Christ, Jacksonville, with Philip Strong officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the McDonald Cemetery, New Summerfield, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Stallings died Thursday, November 13, 2008, at his residence. He was born October 25, 1919 in Ponta to the late John Henry Stallings and Bevie Lou Bird Stallings. He was a lifetime resident of New Summerfield.
He married Ella Mae Magness, in Rusk, March 25, 1939.
He was a graduate of New Summerfield High School and was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Stallings was a retired building contractor and was a member of the Southside Church of Christ, Jacksonville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Murray Stallings, December 17, 2001 and by a brother and sister-in-law, Murray and Helen Sparkman.
Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Ella Mae Magness Stallings, New Summerfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Cindy Stallings, New Summerfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Charles Taylor and Jackie and LeRue Dixon, all of Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Willard W. And Mary Ann Stallings, New Summerfield; grandchildren, Craig Taylor, Brad Taylor, Chad Taylor, Chris Frazer, Steve Frazer, Tracey Murphy, John David Dixon, Stacie Vandagriff, and Raymond Wylie Stallings; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Craig Taylor, Brad Taylor Chad Taylor, Chris Frazer, Steve Frazer, John David Dixon, Wylie Stallings, Ricky Murphy, and John Stallings.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of the Southside Church of Christ, Jacksonville.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Saturday, November 15.
