Obituary of Ed Griffin

Services for Ed Griffin, 86, New London, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, March 21, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Ken Hayman officiating. Burial will be in Rusk County Memorial Gardens, near Henderson. Mr. Griffin died Thursday, March 17, 2011, in a Henderson nursing home. He was born November 16, 1924, in Kerens to the late L.C. Griffin and Fannie Elizabeth Alexander Griffin. He had been a resident of New London since 1947. He married Donnie Crocker January 10, 1947. Mr. Griffin was a pumper in the East Texas oil field, retiring from Exxon in 1984. He was a member of the Longview chapter of the Exxon Mobil Exes Club. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and children. Mr. Griffin served as a radarman 1st class in the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime member of the London Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayman Griffin and Traster Griffin. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Donnie Griffin, New London; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Kum Griffin, Houston, Mark and Rachel Griffin, Port Neches and Garren and Mary Ann Griffin, Austin; a daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Allen Stanton, Garland; a sister, Kirtie Johnson, New London; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kelly Johnson, Ken Griffin, David Cooper, Robbie Griffin, Marlin Dorsey, and Larry Clinkscales. Honorary pallbearers will be Arlis Stone, Glenn McCommon and men from his Sunday School class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 20.
