Obituary of John Marshall

Services for John W. Marshall, Sr, 77, Troup, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 9, at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend Lester Foreman officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Marshall died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born November 8, 1930, in Wichita Falls to the late Aubrey and Louise Wade Marshall. He had been a resident of Troup for the past 30 years. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a retired pressman for The Tyler Morning Telegraph where he worked for 30 years. John's love of life was his family. He and Edna spent many wonderful days playing card/board games and watching movies. He was most happy when all the family would gather at his pretty country home on weekends and holidays for meals and fellowship. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Mr. Marshall married Edna McGaughey in Kyle, Texas July 8, 1953. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Edna Marshall, Troup; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Wade Marshall, Jr. and Nellie Marshall, Whitehouse and Keith and Angela Marshall, Garland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Ann and Joel W. Starkey, Gallatin and Linda Foreman and William Foreman, Sr., Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Beverly Marshall, Wichita Falls; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Billie and Jim Griffin and Donna Willen all of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren, John C. Marshall, Steven Starkey, Kyle Starkey, Cameron Starkey, William Foreman, Jr., Lisa Marshall and Amy Foreman; three great-grandchildren, Lucy Marshall, Eliza Saul, and Steven T. Starkey; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John C. Marshall, Steven Starkey, Kyle Starkey, Cameron Starkey, William Foreman, Jr. and Trent Bass. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, August 8.
