Obituary of Roy Barber
Services for Roy Burton Barber, 87, Fort Worth, formerly of Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton with Pastor Dudley J. Plaisance, Jr. officiating.
Mr. Barber died Saturday, August 2, 2008 in Fort Worth. He was born August 27, 1920 in Rusk County to the late L.L. and Ora B. Thompson Barber. He was a survivor of the New London school explosion. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. He and his wife Marian, the love of his life, raised their family in La Marque, Texas where he owned and operated a service station. He proudly served his community as a Rotarian, a member of the school board and a member of the board of the First United Methodist Church. In 1969, he and his wife moved back to East Texas where they were in the cattle business.
Survivors include Marian, wife of 66 years, currently living in Weatherford; a son, Mike Barber and wife Sharon of Conroe; a daughter, Rhojean Arnold and husband Billy of Weatherford; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pirtle United Methodist Church, 11278 CR 173 N., Overton, TX 75684, or London Museum and Tea Room, 690 S. Main St., New London, TX 75682.
