Obituary of Jerry Ann Bynum
A Service of remembrance for Jerry Ann Pope Bynum will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the First Assembly of God, 5309 Rhones Quarter Road, Tyler with the Reverends Bob Wallace and Johnny Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Jerry passed away peacefully on September 27, 2013, at the Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler. She was born May 13, 1932, the daughter of John L. and Ruth A. Pope of Overton.
Jerry graduated from Overton High School, class of 1950 and she served on the Board of Directors of Overton State Bank for many years.
Although Jerry loved to travel, she lived in East Texas area her entire life; always returning home to her roots.
Jerry was very active in her church community, and was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Tyler. She dedicated her life to be an example of Christ to others. Jerry spent many years working as a leader with the Assembly of God Women's Ministry Program. She also organized and held Vacation Bible Schools throughout the city of Tyler for more than 30 years; spending every summer teaching children that each of them was important and loved by God.
Jerry was a true representation of love and grace to everyone she met.
Jerry is survived by her three sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Brant and Judy Bynum of Spartanburg, SC, Kirk and Maelen Bynum of Tyler and Wes and Betty Bynum of Bullard. Jerry is also survived by her four grandchildren; Ben Bynum, Robert Bynum, Ruth Arnold, and Roger Bynum; a brother and sister-in-law, Rogers and Joyce Pope, Longview; and two nieces, Jan Pope McClelland and Jennifer Pope Jones; and a nephew, John Rogers Pope, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bynum, Roger Bynum, Ben Bynum, Logan Arnold, David Dyess and John Rogers Pope, Jr.
A visitation will be held at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, 905 South Commerce Street, Overton, TX on Monday, September 30 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Gifts in Jerry's memory may be sent to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701. Donations received in memory of Jerry will go towards the Hospice Children's Bereavement Program.
