Obituary of Jim Jarvis
Memorial services for Jim H. Jarvis, 63, Troup, are scheduled for 6:30 pm, Thursday, September 19 at the First United Methodist Church, Troup, with the Reverends Mike Cline and Tommy Earl Burton officiating. Services will be under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
Jim passed away at home on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 after battling cancer for a year. He was born September 18, 1949 in Tyler, Texas, to the late Max and Kay Hines Jarvis. Jim married Susan Worl, January 16, 1970 in Kaufman. He was a lifelong resident of Troup and member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Troup High School and had attended Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas at Tyler. He retired May of 2013 after 37 years of employment with East Texas Saltwater Disposal.
Jim loved his family very much and he always went the extra mile to make everyone happy. He would show his love by taking his sons-in-law hunting, cooking something for his girls, or giving the grandkids spending money and good advice. Jim was an avid hunter and he loved cooking meals of his own creation for his family and friends. Everyone was constantly asking for his salsa, pickles and barbeque. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends and was a member of the board of directors for the Hilltop Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 44 years, Susan Jarvis, Troup; daughters and sons-in-law, Stace and Max Rasberry and Jenifer and Tre' Cheney, all of Troup; beloved grandchildren, Jake, Josie and Jim Rasberry, and Max and Chloe Cheney, all of Troup; mother-in-law, Carolyn Worl, Troup; a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Stacy Jarvis, Bullard; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rex and Kim Worl, Troup and Steve and Devena Worl, Whitehouse; uncle and aunt, Jimmy and Birdie Hines, Jacksonville; and many loved nephews, nieces, and cousins.
