Obituary of Jim Gibson

Services for Jimmy "Jim" Harold Gibson, 65, Whitehouse, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup, with Reverend Carey Ponder officiating. Burial will be in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Jimmy Harold Gibson was born May 23, 1942, in Palestine, Texas. He died Wednesday, May 7, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was raised in New London by his parents, Monroe Alfred and Lura Finch Gibson and graduated from London High School. He attended Kilgore Jr. College, where he was a member of the Ranger Band, and received his degree from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville. He taught at Goose Creek ISD and Deer Park ISD. Jim moved to Dallas and worked as a computer programmer and system analyst until returning to Tyler in 1979. He married Nancy Higgs December 1, 1972 in Dallas. He was a lifelong member of New London Methodist Church. Traveling through out Texas for more than 25 years, he used his talent as an artist and craftsman to create cherished items for many people. His last love was metal art, creating crosses for gardens and homes. He found great joy in the outdoors while fishing, gardening or bird watching. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy Higgs Gibson, Whitehouse; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeff Gibson, Saginaw, Kelly and Angela Gibson, Frisco; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Sue and Tad Clements, Mansfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary Al and Mary Jane Tietz Gibson, Deer Park; four grandchildren, Taylor and Haley Gibson, Frisco, David and Haley Clements, Mansfield; a niece, Jana Gibson White and her husband Danny and their children, Travis and Jacob, Lakeway; a nephew, Greg Gibson and his wife Kyle and their children Garrett, Savannah and Chloe, Deer Park; an aunt, Emmie Gibson Chambers, Palestine; and many cousins. Pallbearers will be Tommy Reed, Darral Steele, Greg Gibson, Bob Woodruff, Keith Wolhford, Don Weisner, Terry Rogers. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701 or to the Alzheimer's Alliance of Northeast Texas, 211 Winchester, Tyler, TX 75701. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm, Friday, May 9.
