Obituary of Nellie Honzell

Services for Nellie L. Honzell, 79, Overton, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 2, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Brian Etheridge and Phil Merwin officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Honzell died Sunday, February 27, 2011, in a Tyler hospice facility. She was born March 22, 1931, in Pampa to the late William and Hattie Sherlock Skaggs. She was a longtime resident of Overton and attended Overton High School. Mrs. Honzell retired in 1986 from United Telephone Company following 20 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Overton Telephone Pioneer Club. She was member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Honzell fought a courageous battle with cancer for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Honzell, Sr. and two daughters, Terry Wineck and Kay Alexander. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Phil Merwin, Hahira, Georgia and Patricia and Steve York, Overton; two sisters, Mary Rhodes Lewis and Myrtle Dillard both of Overton; a special friend, Bob Hinton, New London; eight grandchildren, Jerry Matheny, David Matheny, Bobby Rowe, Shannon Turner, Chris Turner, Stephen Merwin, Scott Merwin, and Angela Dean; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Stacey Cook, David Matheny, Jim Dees, Tom Guinn, Shannon Turner and Chris Turner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1.
