Obituary of Larry Clinkscales

Services for Larry J. Clinkscales, 73, New London will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 2, in the London Baptist Church, New London, with Reverends Ken Hayman, Bob Jones and Bill Rambo officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New London. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mr. Clinkscales died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Tyler. He was born September 4, 1939 in Jefferson to the late Albert Leonard and Gladys Ethyl Hugghins Clinkscales. He married Marjorie Joann James, April 22, 1960 in New London and lived in the Kilgore, New London area for 53 years. He was instrumental in starting the New London Volunteer Fire Department and served as a volunteer fireman. He was a member of the New London City Council for 23 years and retired from East Texas Salt Water Disposal Company.He was a longtime coach for the summer baseball league and was an awesome Dad. He was a member of London Baptist Church, where he served as leader for the missionary program. He was also director of the adult Sunday School Department and taught both Training Union and Sunday School for many years.  Besides his parents, Mr. Clinkscales was also preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Douglas Lynn Clinkscales, Tommy Clifton Clinkscales, Billie Ruth Silvertooth, and Lounette Wilkins. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joann Clinkscales, New London; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Anthony and Melanie Clinkscales, New London; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Jane and Earl Brown, Winona, and Susan Lea and Baron McMillan, Claremore, Oklahoma; a brother, Rodney Clinkscales, Kilgore; two sisters, Peggy Tehan, Longview, and Patsy Hanson, Gilmer; six grandchildren, Laura Jane Brown, Taylor Harrison Brown, Lindsey Lea McMillan, Kaley Grace McMillan, Sarah Elizabeth Richmond, and Cameron Blaise Richmond; two great grandchildren, Jackson Taylor Young and Carter Anthony Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Joe Jones, Billy Lynn Phillips, Ronny Branton, Steve Wedgeworth, Randy Arnold and Curtis Riley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Hinton, Blane Fancer, Josh Hill, Gary Putnam, Johnny Thompson, Carl Riley, Billy Vernon, Joe Riddle, Jim Miller, Carl Merritt, Alan Torbert, Terry 'Bubba' McFarland, Fred Parsons and Dale Stanley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 1.Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Boulevard, Tyler, Texas 75701.
