Obituary of Patty Cross

Patty Sue Cross passed away peacefully on July 18, 2013 at the age of 91. She was born at home to Henry and Irma Davidson in Greenville, Texas on July 8, 1922.  At the age of 10 the family relocated to Troup, Texas where she met the love of her life Joe (Joseph) B. Cross.  Patty was a graduate of Troup High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State College, now the University, in Nacogdoches, Texas where she was an art major. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her professional life was in the wholesale clothing business, where she modeled and sold clothing with her uncle, Fred Ligon, of Cohen, Ligon & Folz of Dallas, Texas. Her first sales trip, which consisted of nine states, started the summer before she graduated high school. She continued working the five markets a year in Dallas, Texas over eighteen years. While still in Troup High School, Patty taught dancing and it remained her and Joe's favorite pastime. Dancing to big name bands like Duke Ellington and even some of the country stars prior to all their fame, like Clint Black, Mickey Gilley and his cousin Carroll Gilley. During the 71 plus years of marriage, she and Joe lived in San Antonio twice, Bonham, Texas during WWII, Troup, Ozona, White Oak, Eldorado, Taft, Dayton, Longview Texas and Seminole, Oklahoma while Joe worked in the liquid natural gas business. She is member number 786 in the SFA Life Membership. She is a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Northern Hill Country Club and an active member in her senior community, The Waterford at Thousand Oaks. She was loved by many in her community and will be greatly missed. Mother,we will miss you so very much.  She is survived by her husband, Joe; daughter, Joan C. McCord and husband, Jim; grandsons, Chris and David Dallal and wife, Sharon; great grandchildren, David Jr. and Cadence Marie, all of San Antonio; nieces, Dr. Carol Smith of Huntsville; nephew, Don Cross and family of Lafayette, Louisiana; cousins in Texas and Louisiana; great nephew, Shannon and Slayton Smith and respective families of Nacogdoches, Texas and a large extended family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. To 7:00 p.m. At Porter Loring North Chapel. Service, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 7:00 p.m., Porter Loring North Chapel 2102 North Loop 1604 East. Graveside, Saturday, July 27, 2013, 10:00 a.m., Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joe and Patty Sue Cross Scholarship at Stephen F. Austin State University, SFA Alumni Association, P.O. Box 6096-SFA Station, Nacogdoches, Texas.
