Obituary of Lorene Sloan

Services for Lorene Golden Sloan, 85 of Arp will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18 at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton with Brother Dennis Cliborn and Rev. Tommy Harden officiating.  Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery at New Chapel Hill. Lorene died Sunday, July 14, 2013 in a Tyler hospital.  She was born June 5, 1928 in Tyler to the late Alvie Hamilton and Idell Barron Golden. She was a lifelong resident of the area, and for forty years she owned and operated an upholstering shop, she was Church Secretary at Bethel Baptist Church for 12 years and also Secretary at Community Baptist Church for 20 years, she attended church for 22 years without missing a Sunday and taught Primary Sunday School for 20 years. She and Verald Elmer Sloan were married March 2, 1949.  She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Donna Jeanette Sloan and two brothers, Cecil Ray and Howard Golden. Mrs. Sloan is survived by her husband, Verald Elmer Sloan of Arp; son and daughter-in-law, James Sloan and wife Janice' of Arp; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Sloan Evans husband Billy Paul of Wright City; brothers, Raymond Roy Golden and wife JoAnn of Chapel Hill, and Marvin J. Golden of Tyler; four grandchildren, Amy Furqueron and husband Buddy, Ashley Sloan, Amber LaBeff and husband Matt, and Amy Rice; nine great grandchildren, Carly and Sheldon Furqueron, Brian and Brandon Nichols, Jerilyn and Matthew LaBeff, Isaiah and Cobie Rice and Teryn Sieber. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 at the funeral home.
