Obituary of John Allen

Services for John Mark Allen, Jr., 61, Tyler, will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with Reverend Curtis Gilbert officiating.. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery, Arp, with Military Honors.  Mr. Allen died Monday, April 1, 2013 in a Tyler hospital. He was born April 7, 1951 in Overton to Mary Lewis Allen and the late John Mark Allen, Sr.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force served in the Vietnam War. He married Nita L. Spruill December 13, 1974 in Overton and moved to Tyler ten years ago from Arp. He was a truck driver and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and being a grandpa.  Besides his father, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, James 'Mr. James' Barnett. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Nita Allen, Tyler; a son, Justin Lee Allen, Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Sunil Chaudhari, Austin; his mother, Mary Barnett, Tyler; a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Eddie Callicutt, Arp; two brothers-in-law, Barry Barnett, Troup, and Kevin Barnett, New London; two sisters-in-law, Martha and Steve Smitha, Tyler and Trudy and Dan McGregor, New Mexico; a grandson, Conner Lee Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Eddie Callicutt, Steve Smitha, Mark Callicutt, Ricky Allen, Jeremy Lampin, Kenneth Allen, Mike Barnett, and Bradley Lampin. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Allen Carroll, Jon Stotts, James Hurst, Rev. George Stotts, John Crispin, Barry Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Steve Allen, and Tommy Horton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 3 at the funeral home.
