Obituary of Roy ‘Shorty’ Brannon

Graveside services for Roy Elwyn "Shorty" Brannon, 86, will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Sandy Creek Cemetery in Rockdale, Texas, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.  Mr. Brannon passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at his home in Troup after a lengthy illness. He lived there for 46 years until his death. He was born August 31, 1926, in Rockdale, Texas to Robert R. and Artie E. (Farris) Brannon. His family moved to Malakoff, Texas where he lived until joining the Navy in 1944. A World War II veteran, he served in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Bristol until March of 1946."Shorty" started with Texas Power and Light at Trinidad in1944. After his service in the Navy, he returned to Trinidad where he worked until 1947. During his career with TP&L, he started up power plants in Waco, Mt. Pleasant, and in East Texas on Lake Stryker where he spent the majority of his career. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gracie Ann Asberry, a brother and sister-in-law J. R. and Dianna Brannon, and wife Doris Brannon.  He is survived by daughters Janone Wood of Wills Point and Debra Brannon of Troup, daughter and son-in-law Tamara and Robert Haynes of Tyler, grandchildren Chris Wood and wife, Amanda, Emily Wood Rumsey and husband Jason, Josh Wood, Jenifer Haynes, Colton Haynes, and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday, April 1, at the funeral home in Troup.
