Obituary of Layward Odom
Memorial services for Layward Boyd 'L.B.' Odom, 91, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton, with Reverend Ray Thompson officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview at 10:00 am on March 2, 2013 for family members only.
Mr. Odom went home to be with the Lord, his wife, son, daughter, grandson, two great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers on February 8, 2013 in a Longview hospice facility following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 29, 1921 in Farmerville, Louisiana to the late John A. Odom and Ethel Tucker Odom. He was a resident of the Overton area since 1946. For 31 years he was an oilfield pumper for Luling Oil and Gas Company located at Leverett's Chapel, then worked as a contract pumper for four years.
Mr. Odom was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton, where he served as deacon. He also served on the school board at Leverett's Chapel and has been a Mason since August 2, 1953, member of the Rocky Mt. Lodge #63 AF and AM. He was also a Veteran of World War II serving in the US Army.
Mr. Odom married his best friend, Eunice (Patton) Odom, January 11, 1941 in Union Parish, Louisiana and they were married for sixty years.In addition to his parents, Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Odom, a son, Boyce Boyd Odom, daughter, Nevelyn Gay Odom Kinamon, grandson, Harold 'Bud' Odom, two great-grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters, Ondus, Horace, Elton, Minor, Carnus, John B., Virgie and Lois.
Survivors include a daughter, Loyce Odom of Gilmer; four grandchildren, Deana Sorenson, Cheree', Chad and Cheyne Odom; and five great grandchildren.
