Obituary of John Lacy

Services for John Melvin Lacy, 79, Mesquite, a Troup native, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with the Reverend Jim Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Lacy died Saturday, December 29, 2012, in a Dallas Hospital. He was born October 11, 1933, in Troup to the late Herman S. and Allie Ruth Gray Lacy. He served two years in the US Army and learned the art of printing while serving. He worked in the printing trade and 1972 purchased Monarch Press and retired in 1982. He was a member of Park Cities Rotary, a Boy Scout leader for Troop 856, and an active member at Casa View Baptist Church for many years. Now a member at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, he was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was a simple country boy that was successful in business and in life. One of the most honest men you would ever meet and always had a joke to share! He married Betty Jane Scoggins, on August 30, 1957. She preceded him in death January 5, 2011, after 53 years of marriage. They had two children William Ray Lacy and Leigh Ann Lacy.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin brother, James Lacy and his sister, Bennie Ruth Ballard. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Andrea Lacy of Dallas; a daughter, Leigh Ann Lacy of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren, Will Lacy, John Lacy, Kristen Lacy, and their mother Karen Lacy and Jordan Vasquez, Ariana Vasquez, and Annsley Vasquez; a great-granddaughter, McKynzie Lacy; He has many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who are dear to his heart as well. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordan Vasquez, Will Lacy, John Lacy, Bryan Lacy, David Scoggins and Matias Scoggins The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from  Noon until 1:00 pm, Monday, December 31. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of your choice.
