Obituary of Leland L. Greer

Services for Leland L. "Tex" Greer, 87, New London are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Gary Langford and Reverend James Greer officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New London. Mr. Greer died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 16, 1925, in Woodward, Oklahoma to the late Glen R. and Jewell Stone Greer. He was a resident of Henderson prior to moving to New London 30 years ago. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving on three different ships. He retried as a mechanic for Hale Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Henderson.  Mr. Greer served on the New London City Council for four years and was a member of the Hall Brothers VFW Post #9185, Overton. Mr. Greer was a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church were he was also a member of the Joshua Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, John Franklin Greer. He married Gaynell Robertson, February 10, 1984, in Henderson. Survivors include his wife Gaynell Robertson Greer, of New London; two sons, Danny Vinson of New London and Mark Vinson of Henderson; two brothers, Laven Greer and Gary Joe Greer both of Pampa; seven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Danny Vinson, Mark Vinson, Robert Grubbs, Freddy Crumpler, and Tom Guinn.  Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Hall Brothers VFW Post #9185, Overton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Friday, December 7.
