Obituary of Geneva Ford

Services for Geneva Ford, 91, Troup, will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 11 in the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup, with Reverend Bennie Portwood and Reverend Doctor Paul Saylors officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery. Mrs. Ford died Thursday, November 8, 2012 in a hospice facility in Tyler. She was born April 6, 1921, in Troup to the late John and Wrennie Mignon Ginn Fields.  She was Veteran of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps assigned to the Army Air Force. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she spent her entire working life. She retired to Troup from the Dixie Community in Tyler 23 years ago where she was a long-time member of the Dixie Baptist Church where she raised her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troup. Geneva Ford was a special and unusual woman with strong character and beliefs. She was a champion of the underdog, the defenseless, and a helper to those who struggled. She was a great patriot who served her country, kept up with current affairs and always voted. She loved God and promoted righteousness, truth, honesty and fairness. Hers was a life well lived, contributing to the well being of her family and others to the end. She was matriarch of the Ford family. She was saved when she was a teenager, and loved having family together and any excuse was a good excuse for a party. She loved to read, loved people and visiting with people.  A special thanks to Royal Fields, who was always there for her and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Henry Ford, Sr.; a son, C. Wayne Ford; a daughter-in-law, Toni Ford; four brothers, Sam Fields, John Fields, Jeff Fields and Dan Fields; three sisters, Ethel Rollins, Thelma Fields and Nell Haisler. Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, C. H and Pat Ford, of Tyler, Leslie D. Ford, of Troup, and Cliff Ford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Royal Fields, of Whitehouse, Bill and Joann Fields, of Longview, and Joyce Fields, of Troup; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers will be John Pat Ford, Chris Ford, Matt Ford, Tim Ford, Gary Fields and David Rollins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Saturday, November 10.
