Obituary of Lois Simpson

Funeral services for Lois D. Simpson, 94, Arp, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton with Reverend Tommy Harden officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery. Mrs. Simpson died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in Overton. She was born March 13, 1913 in Smith County to the late George W. and Daisy L. Cooley Ledford. She married the late William Simpson June 10, 1933 in Troup. She was cofounder of the Houston School for the Deaf and retired in 1973 after 27 years as a teacher. She was an avid fund raiser and a member of the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis Ledford and Rudolph Ledford, and two sisters, Jimmie Sorrell and Alice Stovall. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold and Doris Simpson of Marietta, Georgia and Glenn Simpson of Houston; a sister, Judy Thompson of Arp; three grandchildren, Tara Simpson, Harold Simpson, Jr., and Brick Simpson; four great grandchildren, Alexandra Hodges, Antonia Hodges, James Hodges, III, and Noah Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Randy Mullican, Vernon Bedair, James Locklear, Richard Locklear, Brick Simpson, and Harold Simpson, Jr.
