Obituary of Mary John Portwood
Services for Mary John Portwood, 70, of Whitehouse are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 6 at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, Whitehouse, where she was a member for many years, with the Reverend Mike Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Portwood passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, in a Tyler hospital.
She was born November 15, 1940, in Tyler, to Mayme Edwards Hamilton and the late Dillon W. Hamilton.
She married Bill Portwood in Whitehouse, August 11, 1959.
Mrs. Portwood taught school at Chapel Hill ISD, Whitehouse ISD and Tyler ISD at Camp Tyler. She loved the outdoors.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bill Portwood, Whitehouse; two daughters, Karla Cain and her husband, Calvin of Whitehouse and Kara Claiborne and her fiancé, David Hutton of Whitehouse; her mother, Mayme Edwards Hamilton, Whitehouse; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma Jo and Terry Hanks, Whitehouse; four grandchildren, Chris Cain, Casey Cain, Matt Claiborne, and Maci Claiborne; two great grandchildren, Logan Claiborne and Samantha Claiborne; and nephews and a great-niece.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hanks, George Brigman, Houston Morrow, Jim Lenderman, Dale Stanton, Brad Bradshaw and Hal Rasberry.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sunday School Class of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Saturday, February 5.
