Obituary of Gwen Barber Williams

Funeral services for Gwen Barber Williams, 84, Overton will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, at the Overton First Baptist Church with Revered Charles Paschall officiating under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mrs. Williams died, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 in Tyler. She was born February 22, 1923 in Mertens to the late Raymond Charles and Edna Elizabeth Tekell Stewart. She grew up in Overton and moved back to Overton in 1975 from Lufkin. She married Johnny H. Williams October 10, 1992 in Overton. She was an avid genealogist and was instrumental in the Veterans Memorial at the Overton City Cemetery. She owned and operated beauty salons in Houston, Lufkin, Kilgore, and Overton and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence L. Barber, and two brothers, James Robert Stewart and Ralph Edwin Stewart. Survivors include her husband of fifteen years, Johnny H. Williams of Overton; a foster son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Lee and Sandy Dickens of Hermatige, Tennessee; three stepsons and two stepdaughters-in-law, John David and Becky Williams of Howell Lake, Rodney Lee and Dona Williams of Longview, and Harold Dwain Williams of Conroe; a sister, Nona Raye Stewart Heizer of Holly Lake Ranch; a sister-in-law, Hazel Poland of Leveretts Chapel, five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces. Pallbearers will be Adam Williams, Cory Williams, Justin Williams, Drew Corbitt, Phil Kee, and Gary L. Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Hamilton, Bill Steere, Robert Loftice, James Pruett, Mike Fougrousse, Jerry Tekell, and Chuck Stayton. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, at the funeral home.
