Obituary of Vaughn Lowry

Services for Vaughn F. Lowry, 95, Arp are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 18 at the Cottle Funeral Home chapel, Troup with Don Crawford and Jerry 'Bo' Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup. Mr. Lowry died Thursday, June 14, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born March 6, 1917, in Pittsburg, Texas to the late Henry C. and Sara Elizabeth Fuller Lowry. He had been a lifetime resident of Arp. Mr. Lowry retired as welder from Southwest Tank. He served as Mayor of Arp from 1966 until 1968 and then again from 1982 until 1986. He also served as Arp Municipal Judge from January of 1984 until December 1995. Mr. Lowry was a member of the West Erwin Church of Christ, Tyler and attended the Arp Church of Christ. He married Evelyn Evans in Kilgore, January 19, 1939. She preceded him in death October 13, 1999. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, H.C. Lowry and son-in-law, Jerry Howard. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Pamela Lowry of Arp; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Michael Murphey of Lake Tyler East; five grandchildren and their spouses, Keith and Renae Howard, Jeff and Nancy Howard, Josh Lowry, Blake Lowry and Haylee Lowry; and three great-grandchildren, Trenton Lee Howard, Jared Michael Howard and Kalyn Nicole Howard. Pallbearers will be Keith Howard, Jeff Howard, Jared Howard, Trenton Howard, Josh Lowry, Blake Lowry and Michael Murphey.  The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 17. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701 or to the Medina Children's Home, 21300 State Highway 16 North, Medina, TX 78055.
