Obituary of Gerald Childress
Funeral services for Gerald Childress, 79, Houston, formerly of the Concord Community near Troup, will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 22, at the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Duane Dougherty officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Gerald Ray Childress went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He is finally free from pain and will be able to join many loved ones, including his parents, Dall and Marguerite Childress; his brother, Lawrence Childress; and his precious great-nephew, Kyle Schulze.
Gerald was born August 15, 1931, in the community of Concord, Texas and attended Carlisle High School. He spent most of his adult years in Houston, Texas, and retired after 37 years with Union Pacific Railroad.
Gerald was a very active member of the Clay Road Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and a life member of the Park Place Masonic Lodge in Houston, Texas. If there was ever a true Christian man who loved God, it was Gerald; if there was ever a man who gave unconditional love, it was Gerald.
His survivors, who will miss him terribly, but have wonderful memories, include his sister, Genell Wootan, Houston; sister-in-law, Maxine Childress, Tyler; two nieces and their husbands, Brenda and Bill Spillman and Linde and Richard Belt; nephews and their wives, Randall and Rhonda Wootan and Larry and Regina Childress; great nieces and their husbands, Stacy and David Schulze, Stephanie Steves, Leia and Keith Koehler, Rachel Wootan, Rori Wootan and Rushelle Rounds; great-nephews, Waylon Wilder, Adam Childress, and Trevor Childress, great-great-nieces and nephew (they were the light of his life)—Anna Steves, Ellie Steves, Stevie Wilder, Alyssa Rounds, "Bo" Koehler and Jordan Dove; and many, many other special cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Billy Childress, Larry Childress, David Schulze, Bill Spillman, Waylon Wilder, and Randall Wootan.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Star of Hope Missions, P.O. Box 1505, Houston, TX 77251-1505.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, January 21.
