Obituary of James Reynolds

Memorial services to honor James E. Reynolds, 81, will be at 10:00 am, Monday, May 21, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton, with Reverend Johnny Wright officiating. At his request, his remains will be cremated and he will be buried in Lakewood Memorial Park, Henderson at a later date. Mr. Reynolds passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, in a Hospice of East Texas, Tyler after a brief illness. He was born September 26, 1930, in Eldorado, Arkansas to the late Watson and Raby Reynolds.  Mr. Reynolds was a resident of New London for most all his life and little is known about his childhood, but as a young man he joined the US Marine Corp and served from 1948 to 1955 and fought in combat in the Korean War and was shot in both legs. During his time with the USMC he also worked with the US Government Operation Tumbler-Snapper, a feature of the atomic arms race, for which he was very proud of. He was honorably discharged for his disability and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean PUC, Korean Service Medal, the Purple Heart and the United Nations Service Medal. Leaving to cherish his memory are his friends, such as the guys at the Overton Doughnut Shop, the Overton Dairy Queen and Herschel's in Henderson. He also enjoyed his hobbies such as wood working, building model cars and airplanes alone with a host of his friends. Mr. Reynolds was a humble, generous man, with a great sense of Humor and will be greatly missed by many.
