Obituary of Dorothy Thompson

Services fpr Dorothy Dean Griffin Thompson, 90, New London, will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Wright officiaiting. Burial will be in the Danville Cemetery near Kilgore. Mrs. Thompson died Friday, April 27, 2012 in a hospice facility in Tyler.  She was born July 3, 1921, in Grandfield, Oklahoma to the late Rufus Floyd and Daisy Dena Griffin. She had lived in Laird Hill since 1931 and moved to New London in 1952. She attended Kilgore High School and Kilgore Business College and married J. R. Thompson on October 23, 1937 in Greggton. She retired as Postmaster of New London.  She also worked as a supervisor in various sewing factories and as a welder.  She was a member of the Henderson Eastern Star Chapter 597 and a member of London Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Thompson, three brothers, Leon Griffin, Bernard Griffin and Willard Griffin; her twin sister, Doris Campbell; and her husband, J. R. Thompson. Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, James E. and Claudette Thompson, New London and Ira Thompson Mitchell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Eugene Posey, New London and Judy Gayle and Danny Oller, Liberty City; eleven grandchildren, Michael Thompson, Chris Thompson, Lisa Thompson, Amber Thompson, Larry Lee Thompson, Jamie Thompson, Jill Griffith, Joyce Sandoval, Ken Posey, Terry Oller and Leigh Merritt; great grandchildren, Taylor Thomas, Samantha Thomas, Jessica Stephens, Courtney Thompson, Max Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, Braedon Thompson, Kaylee Thompson, Dustin Griffith, Faith Griffith, Jordon Sandoval, Gabriel Lawrence, Sara Posey, Reece Posey, Ashleigh Bozeman and Hannah Merritt; great great granddaughters, Sadie and Paisley Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Thompson, Michael Thompson, Terry Oller, Ken Posey, Jamie Lynn Thompson and Larry Lee Thompson.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 29.
