Obituary of Cruce Creekmur
Funeral services for Cruce E. Creekmur, 95, Overton, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Johnny Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mr. Creekmur died Saturday, September 1, 2007 in a Tyler hospital. He was born July 31, 1912 in Beggs, Oklahoma to the late Edward F. and Mae Mabrey Creekmur. He moved to Overton in 1929 and he and his family owned and operated Creekmur's Food Store from 1930 until 1995.
He had served as a 40 year member of the Overton Rotary Club. Mr. Creekmur had received his 60 year membership pin from the Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge #63, Overton, where he was eligible to receive his 70 year pin.
Mr. Creekmur was a current member and past President of the Overton-New London Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Overton City Council several terms and was Mayor Pro-tem. He also worked with the Boy Scouts and served as a fund raiser for them.
He was a rancher and an owner of rental property.
Mr. Creekmur was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton where he served many years as a Sunday School teacher for boy's Sunday School classes. He married Mary Elizabeth VanHoorbeke, March 18, 1937. She preceded him in death October 23, 1970. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Creekmur and Raymond Welch and by a sister, Dorothy French.
He married Beulah Opal Glass Frost, June 27, 1971.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Beulah Creekmur, Overton; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carolyn Creekmur, Overton; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Brousseau, Winona and Cathy and Dylan Dawes, Los Angeles, California; a grandson, Chris Edward Creekmur, Marietta, Georgia; a great-grandaughter and great-grandson-in-law, Rachel Brousseau Covington and T.J. Covington; a great-grandson, Daniel Brousseau; a great-great grandson, ZeShaun Covington; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service.
