Obituary of Joan Barton

Services for Joan Barton, 82, New London, are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Monday, January 23, at the New London United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Hilton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New London under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton. Mrs. Barton died Friday, January 20, 2012, in Henderson. She was born January 1, 1930, in Longview to the late F.A. Florence, Sr. and Emma Maude Stillwell Florence. She graduated from New London High School in 1948 and attended Tyler Junior College. She was a resident of Baytown for 32 years before moving to New London in 1982.She was a bookkeeper for Baytown Motors, Baytown and Barrett Motor Company, Tyler. She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer and was a member of the choir. She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Barton in 1997 and by two brothers, F.A. Florence, Jr. and Walter Florence and three sisters, Ruth Florence, Jane Florence and Marie McGregor. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wesley Herrin, New London and Billy and Cyndee Herrin, Celina; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Sam Yehia, Raleigh, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Josh Herrin, Jason Herrin, Sean Herrin, Matt Herrin, Adam Herrin and Ramsey Yehia. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the New London United Methodist Church, P.O. 168, New London, TX 75682. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, January 22.
