Obituary of James Gammons

Services for James H. Gammons, 66, Overton, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 14, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with the Reverend Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery. Mr. Gammons died Sunday, August 12, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born August 25, 1940, in Melissa, Texas to the late Lindsey and Leila Barnett Gammons. He had been a resident of the Overton area for the past 35 years. Mr. Gammons was a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Gammons retired from Mrs. Baird's Bakery after serving as a delivery man for 20 years. He had also worked for Brookshire's in Overton for the past 11 years. He married Sue Zabrosky Tippitt, February 1, 1994. Survivors include his wife, Sue Gammons, Overton; three sons and two daughters -in-law, Jeff and Connie Gammons, Ivanhoe, Rodney and Daphne Gammons, Bonham, and Greg Gammons, Abilene; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Loyce Dame, Oakhill and Sharla and Michael Mount, Eagle River, Alaska; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Mark and Traci Tippitt and David and Wendy Tippitt, all of Kilgore; four grandsons; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. Pallbearers will be Jeff Gammons, Rodney Gammons, Justin Gammons, Joshua Gammons, Jacob Gammons, and Christopher Gammons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, August 13.
