Obituary of Florence Barber
Services for Florence " Marian" Bradford Barber, 89, Weatherford, formerly of Overton, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 14 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton with Reverend Dudley J. Plaisance, Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Barber died peacefully Saturday, January 8, 2011, in Fort Worth, after a short illness. She was born March 2, 1921, in Overton to the late Claud and Opal Harman Bradford and graduated from Arp High School. She was "Miss Arp" in 1939. She married Roy Burton Barber February 2, 1942, and they raised their family in La Marque, where they owned and operated a service station. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In 1969, she and her husband moved back to East Texas where they were in the cattle business. She was known for her love of family and friends and most of all for her wonderful cooking. There has never been a better coconut pie or little baked apricot pies in all of Texas. She delighted in crocheting personal gifts for friends and family.She also just became more beautiful with age. She had the most precious spirit in the world and will be deeply missed by loved ones.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Roy Burton Barber on August 2, 2008.
Survivors a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon Barber, Conroe; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhojean and Billy Arnold, Weatherford; a brother, Claud L. "Jake" Bradford, Omen and Robert L. "Bunky" Bradford, Flint; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pirtle United Methodist Church, 11278 CR 173 N., Overton, TX 75684, or Ebenezer Cemetery, c/o Betty Bradford, P. O. Box 624, Arp, Tx 75750.
