Obituary of Luther McPherson

Services for Luther C. McPherson, Jr., 74, Hurst, will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 19, in the Cottle Funeral Home Chapel, Troup with Reverend Ron Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Whitehouse Cemetery, Whitehouse. Mr. McPherson died Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in Hurst, at his residence. He was born January 15, 1937, in Marrion County, Alabama to the late Luther Cyle McPherson, Sr. and Connie Mae Robinson. He is a veteran of the US Navy and married Ida May Vars, October 10, 1959 in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was an engineer for Raytheon, Garland and retired after 25 years.  Mr. McPherson was a member of the National Skeet Shooters Association, the Texas Skeet Shooters Association and the Grand Prairie Gun Club. He enjoyed carpentry and building houses.  Besides his parents, Mr. McPherson was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Robinson McPherson. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ida McPherson, Hurst; a daughter and son-in-law, Carmella and Don Walters, Springtown; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles Jerry and Peggy McPherson, Troup; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Ann Bond, Concord, California and Carolyn Sue and Bobby Kennedy, Arp; two grandchildren, Sasha Tucker, Collinsville and Marcus Walters, Venus; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Benton, Braeden Benton, Alexis Tucker, Aurora Tucker, Jacob Walters and Lucas Walters; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Pallbearers will be Billy Hilliard, Chuck McPherson, Raul Solis, Andy Overton, James Pendgraft, and Bill Overton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday, November 18.
