Obituary of Bill Harris

Services for Bill Harris, 83, Troup, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 22, at the First Baptist Church, Troup, with the Reverend Marvin Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mr. Harris died Friday, July 20, in a Tyler hospice facility. He was born April 24, 1924, in Italy, Texas to the late Ross Enoch Harris and Willie B. Woodward Harris. Mr. Harris was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Iris Tucker in Troup, May 20, 1950. Mr. Harris retired from the U.S. Postal Service following 28 years of service. He loved golf, fishing and squirrel hunting. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Troup, where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Enoch Harris. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Iris Harris, Tyler ; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Shelba Harris, Little Rock, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Joe Musslewhite, Troup; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Reverend Marvin Harris and Sandra Harris, Marshall and Chester Harris, Waco; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Allen 'Speedy' Wilkerson, Jason and Jennifer, Harris, and Casey Harris; three great-grandchildren, Austin Wilkerson, Bailey Wilkerson, and Bryce Wilkerson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Adams, Jason Harris, Allen 'Speedy' Wilkerson, Casey Harris, Johnny Ashby, Joe Layne, and Bill Crites. Buster Ledford will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Saturday, July 21.
