Obituary of Gerald Sloan
Services for Gerald D. Sloan, 86, Arp, are scheduled for 11:00 am, Monday, November 7, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Mike Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery, New Chapel Hill.
Mr. Sloan died Friday, November 4, 2011, in a Whitehouse nursing home. He was born February 4, 1925, in Smith County, to the late Isaac Patton Sloan and Sarah Dykes Sloan.
He was a lifetime resident of Arp and was a graduate of Arp High School. In 1986, Mr. Sloan retired from Carrier Air Conditioning, Tyler.
Mr. Sloan was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church for over 60 years.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Sloan and three sisters, Ruth McCoy, Gladys Isbell and Nella Jewel Sloan.
He married Eula Boulter June 21, 1949, in Tyler.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eula Boulter Sloan, Arp; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Kevin Lindsey, White Oak; a twin brother and sister-in-law, Verald and Lorene Sloan, Arp; a grandson, Kurt Lindsey; a granddaughter, Camille Lindsey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Mack Rains, James Sloan, Mark Green, Sam Cavazos, Kurt Lindsey and Kevin Lindsey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Verald Sloan, T.L. Williams, Kenneth McCoy, Kenneth Golden, Norman Jeffers, Jerry Lindsey, Ed Jarvis, Chester Boulter, Don Blevins, Dale Swinney, Johnny Emmons and Ray Patterson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, November 6.
