Obituary of Buddy Gail Grandstaff
Buddy Gail “Shot” Grandstaff of Arp, Texas, born on August 1, 1938 in Wright City, Texas, to the late Faye Stiles Grandstaff and the late C.R. “Nig” Grandstaff, passed away at age 80 on May 2, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. Upon graduation from Arp High School in 1956, Shot enlisted and served in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge. His career spanned decades in the Oil & Gas Industry as an oilfield production specialist for Marvin A. Smith, Rusk Co. Well Service, and The Long Trusts. Upon retirement, Shot lived at Lake Fork where he enjoyed relaxing time with friends, fishing and playing dominos in beautiful East Texas. Years later he moved back to Arp, interacting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his constant companion, his dog Texas. He was a member of the Arp Methodist Church.
Buddy Shot was preceded in death by his sister, Ramona Swain, and a nephew, Reuben Jones.
He is survived by his son, Daren Gale Grandstaff; Krystal Grandstaff, a brother, Dale Grandstaff; and a sister, Jean “Punk” Jones. His grandchildren, Amber G. Holcombe of Lufkin, Jacquiline Wahloithner of Lufkin, Gunner Grandstaff, Colt Grandstaff, Ashton Jett and Elissa Petrey all of Arp. Three great-grandsons, Brandon and Dillon Keegan and Brendon Grandstaff. Shot has numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their families.
Friends and family can pay their respects during visitation at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, 905 S. Commerce St., Overton, Texas on Wednesday, May 8, from 5-7pm. Funeral services are scheduled Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home beginning at 1:00pm. Graveside services at Overton City Cemetery will follow; family and friends are welcome to attend.
Services are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home as family and friends celebrate the life of Shot Grandstaff.
Pallbearers are Gunner Grandstaff, Colt Grandstaff, Donnie Jones, Brad Jones, Rick Swain and Steve Swain. Honorary pallbearers include lifetime friends, Calhoon, Thomas Sieber, Billy Parish, Jerry Moore, Bubba Jones, Micky Smith and Larry Long.
