Obituary of Gene Harper
Services for Gene Harper, 84, New London, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 12, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton with the Reverend Fred Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near New London.
Mr. Harper died Monday, October 10, 2011, in a Tyler hospital. He was born June 19, 1927, in Burkburnett to the late Thomas D. and Maye Reynolds Harper. He lived in Baytown prior to moving to New London in 1996. He had also been a 20 year resident of McCamey.
He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Harper retired from Shell Pipeline Company in 1989. He was a member of the Eastview Baptist Church, Kilgore.
He loved golf, having scored three holes in one. He also loved woodworking, but most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He married Billie Thompson, in Henderson, December 10, 1948.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billie Harper, New London; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Pam Harper, Houston and John Kelly Harper, Fort Worth; a brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Evelyn Harper, Longview; a sister, Dorothy Cain, Quitman; three grandsons, Grant Harper, Jeff Harper and his wife, Adrienne and Sam Harper; and several nieces and nephews.
