Obituary of Charles Wayne Garrett

Charles Wayne Garrett, of Troup, entered his eternal reward Wednesday, January 2, 2019, after reaching the age of 78. He passed peacefully at the hospital in Tyler, Texas from complications of kidney failure.

Charles was born on February 6, 1940, in Troup, Texas and graduated from Troup High School, in 1958. He played football, basketball and learned the value of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Charles attended Tyler Junior College and Tyler Barber College. He owned and operated a barber shop in Troup, Texas.

In 1960, he married the love of his life, Glenda Patterson Garrett. They have lived together almost inseparably for over 58 years.

Charles enlisted in the United States Army in 1960, served for 3 years and received an honorable discharge.

He began employment with the United States Postal Service in 1963, becoming a supervisor of a large postal branch before his retirement at over 30 years.

While in Killeen, he was a barber, car dealer, real estate broker and auctioneer. He was a board member of Faith Temple Church for over 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Tynie Garrett and Brother, James Garrett all of Troup, Texas.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Patterson Garrett of Troup; children, Teresa Fuller and husband David of Killeen, Gregory Garrett of Nolanville; granddaughter, Kayla Bill and husband Adrian; great grandchildren, Johnathan, James and Audray Bill of El Paso, nephew, David Garrett and wife Mary of Troup.

If a Christian is known by the fruit he bares, Charles’ character always reflected kindness and generosity and he always found the good in everyone.

He was a man that loved Jesus, his family and a friend to all. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving grandfather and great grandfather.

Fondly remembered by many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, church family and many good friends.

Charles service will be Sunday, 2:00 pm, January 6, 2019 at First Assembly of God, Troup, Texas with Reverend Tracy Wright and Reverend R.J. Miller officiating, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Visitation will be Saturday, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, January 5, 2019 at the funeral home.
