Obituary of Kathleen McElroy

Funeral services for Kathleen Long McElroy, 97, of Troup, will be held 2:00 pm Friday, November 2, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Troup with Reverend John Stouffer and Reverend Wade Harman officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup. Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Kathleen passed away October 30, 2018. She was born December 31, 1920 in Mixon, Texas to the late Robert Med Long and Hattie Rector Long. She was a teacher for almost 40 years and retired from Troup Independent School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troup, Friends of the Library and a lifetime residence of Troup. She was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious cakes and pies.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eugene McElroy and brother, John B. Long.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Joe Paul and Barbara McElroy of Troup; granddaughter and husband, Amy and Shane Walters of Tyler; grandson, Ryan Townsend of Troup and great grandchildren, Millard Eli Walters, Samuel Eugene Walters and George Edward Walters. Special friends, Mary York and Yvonne Wilson.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Townsend, Shane Walters, Craig Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Patrick McElroy, David Sadler, J.R. Forgy and Johnny Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Head, Rex Worl and J.C Trahan.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
