Obituary of Charles Wayne Cook
Funeral services for Charles W. Cook, 84, of Arp will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 29 at Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Klingsick officiating. Burial will be in the Mason Cemetery, Arp.
Mr. Cook passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born June 7, 1934 in Troup Texas to the late Taylor and Effie Cook.
Besides his parents, Mr. Cook was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Aschraft and Nell Gaut. He was also preceded in death by nephews Donny Gaut and Joey Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mildred Cook of Arp; Son Terry Cook and wife Gloria Cook of Arp, and daughter Kim Krantz and husband Gary Krantz of Kilgore. A brother, James Cook and his wife Robin of Overton. Grandchildren Sam Ducksworth and wife Donanne of McKinney and Blaine Ducksworth and wife Crystel of Arp, Brittany Krantz and Lacey Krantz of Kilgore. Three great grandchildren, Emma and Macey Ducksworth and Damien Ducksworth and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cook attended London High School where he participated in football. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a Sales Representative for various food brokers in Shreveport and Houston. At the time of his death, he was employed at Wal-Mart in Kilgore.
He was a true Arp Tiger fan and served as the football team’s statistician and correspondent for the Tyler Morning Telegraph for over 30 years. He served on the Arp ISD school board for many years. Mr. Cook’s love for sports was evident as he was responsible for organizing and forming Little League Baseball in Arp where he served as a coach and mentor. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Overton Golf Course where he recorded 2 holes in one. He was a member of Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Nudgers Sunday school Class.
Mr. Cook loved people, never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He loved to laugh and enjoyed making others laugh.
Pallbearers will be Stacey Cook, Kelly Cook, Cody Cook, Michael McAdams, Randy Gaut, and Jon Lyles.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, Saturday September 29, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
