Obituary of Dr. Dennis E. Cliborn, Sr.

Funeral services for Dr. Dennis E. Cliborn, Sr., Arp, will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Reverend Chris Cliborn officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery near Tyler.

Dennis was born February 28, 1950 in San Benito, Texas to the late Roy Lee and Lillian Corrine Cliborn. He entered into his Heavenly rewards on Saturday, August 18, 2018 in Tyler at UT Health of East Texas.

He was a 1968 graduate of Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Texas. In 1970 he met Sue Carol Sindle while attending East Texas Baptist College and realized he had met his soulmate. On July 10, 1970 Dennis and Sue were married. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage, two precious children, and five grandchildren. He ministered and pastored many churches in East Texas for 50 years while currently serving the loving fellowship of Community Baptist Church in Swinney Town community. He also served his communities as patrol officer and trained many who are still serving in law enforcement.

Dennis loved the opportunity to preach and share the gospel of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He would often share his faith or pray for those he came in contact with in public. He had a desire to honor his calling to the ministry wherever he was able.

Family was very important to Dennis and he loved them dearly. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with them in their homes and enjoying times when all the grandkids were together. He enjoyed watching them play with “MawMaw” and hearing their laughs and giggles coming in through the house. Each one of them had a special connection to him, and he would always swell with pride as he talked about them.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and David Cliborn. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted, beloved wife Sue; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Christi of Tyler and Chris and Shannon of Arp; He is also survived by grandchildren, Caden, Rylie, Carson, Makynzie, and Colton. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and many friends who will greatly miss him. His surviving Aunt Maxine Brown also held a special place in his heart after the passing of his mother.

Pallbearers will be Randy Kennedy, Brent Scott, Craig Braswell, Buddy Furgueron, Richard Gary and Bill Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Moone, Ralph Collins, Ronald Swinney, Steve Larson and Jame Black.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday, August 21, from  6:00 m to 8:00 m at the funeral home.
