Obituary of John David Harman
Services for John David Harman, 80, Overton, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Atwell Hankins and Reverend Doctor Charles Paschall officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New London.
Mr. Harman died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in Tyler. He was born November 29, 1930, in Van to the late Owen Terrell and Lucille Parrish Harman. He was a paratrooper in the US Army and married Darlene Gaut January 9, 1959, in New London. He loved welding and was a self employed pipeline construction welder and worked all over the United States and over seas. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Local Union # 798, Tulsa, Oklahoma and had worked as a welding instructor at Kilgore College.
Mr. Harman loved country and western and bluegrass music and enjoyed his friends, family and grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Overton.
Besides his parents, Mr. Harman was also preceded in death by his stepfather who raised him after the death of his father when he was 4 years old, W. M. McNulty.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Darlene Harman, Overton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Cheryl Harman, New London; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bryan Savoy, St. Louis, Missouri, and Connie and Tommy Wade, Tyler; a brother, Bobby Harman, Tyler; two sisters, Sandra Drake, Flower Mound, and Pat Roberts, San Antonio; five grandchildren, Brennan Gounah, Sean Harman, Christopher Harman, Skyler Savoy, and Ashlyn Savoy, a great granddaughter, Cambria Harman; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brennan Gounah, Sean Harman, Christopher Harman, Skyler Savoy, Ashlyn Savoy, John Gaddis and Kelly Gounah.
