Obituary of Jimmy Earl Skaggs
Military graveside services for Jimmy Earl Skaggs, 75 of Henderson, will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 30 in the Overton City Cemetery with Dr. Murdina D. McDonald, (D.Phil Oxon) officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mr. Skaggs passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 in a Longview hospital. He was born June 9, 1943 in Electra, to the late William Alford and Edna Earl Turman Skaggs. Jimmy made his career in the US Navy. His service to his country took him all over the world, including Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, Jim moved back to East Texas and continued to work, buying and selling tools at flea markets. A job he loved because he never met a stranger. He had a passion for working on and collecting old cars. If it had a motor, he could make it run. He loved his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Besides his parents, Mr. Skaggs was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Skaggs, twin sons, James Edward Skaggs and John Earl Skaggs, a brother, William Allan Skaggs, two sisters, Shirley Ann Engledow and Katherine Skaggs, and a grandson, Michael Skaggs.
Mr. Skaggs is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Allen and Kimberly Skaggs of Baytown, Justin Wade and Kelly Skaggs of Rockwall; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Daniel Givens of Rowlett; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Gloria Skaggs of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two sisters, Carolyn Gunn of Kilgore, Billie Joyce Forman of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Crista Kiszkiel, Holly Skaggs, Johnathan Skaggs, and Conner Givens; two great grandchildren, Saint Michael Skaggs and Toy Dallas Davison; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Givens, Johnathan Skaggs, Saint Michael Skaggs, Robert Skaggs, Justin Skaggs, and Conner Givens. Honorary pallbearer will be Howard Engledow.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, Saturday, June 30, prior to the service.
