Obituary of Bobby Earnest Standard

    Graveside services with Military Honors for Bobby Earnest Standard, 80, of Frankston, will be held at 10 am, Friday, May 11, 2018, at Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill, with Reverend Godwin Osuagwu officiating. Funeral services are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

    Mr. Standard passed away May 8, 2018. He was born on October 20, 1937 in Longview to the late KB & Rebel Doss Standard.

     Bob’s career in the Navy began in May of 1960 in the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, as a Naval Corpsman. He progressed to the rank of E-9 before he was offered a commission late in his career; a most unusual career path for a military officer. Bob retired as a Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps on the jet training facility in Beeville, Texas. Duty stations included Naval Hospitals in San Diego, Guam, Portsmouth, Camp Lejeune and at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Bob served several tours overseas on the carrier USS Constellation as well as the USS Camden.    

    Subsequent to Bob’s military retirement he entered the Foreign Missionary Service of the Southern Baptist Convention as a missionary in Zimbabwe, Africa from 1982 to 1986.

    He married Elaine Standard on August 18, 1989 in Dumas, Texas and in May of 1999 the pair moved from Chapel Hill to Frankston. Bob was a member of Crossbrand Calvary Church in Tyler and he was Mayor Protem in Berryville.

    Survivors include his wife Elaine Standard; 4 children, Randy Standard (Dawn), Ben Standard; Chris Breckel (Holley), Hollye Breckel Cook; 5 grandchildren, Christopher Jones, Donald Fears, Carson Cook, Conley Breckel and Cooper Breckel.

    Honorary pallbearers are Randy Standard, Chris Breckel, Carson Cook and Clarence Ohnheiser.

    Visitation will be at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
