Obituary of Tom Roland Guinn

Services for Tom Roland Guinn, 73, New London, are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 6, at Missionary Baptist Church in Overton with Reverend Gerald ‘Pee Wee’ Beckham and Reverend Dean Grigsby officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near New London. Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.

Tom Roland Guinn went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Henderson. Tom was born on November 4, 1944 in the old Brandon House on Brandon Hill in Overton to the late Paul and Edith Guinn.  Tom graduated from London High School in 1963 and joined the army in 1965, serving in the Vietnam War until 1969 when he was Honorably Discharged. On December 22, 1966 he married his beloved wife Phyllis Davis and they settled in New London for 51 years of married life.

Tom served as a deacon for many years in several churches. At the age of 72, he surrendered to preach and became Pastor of Overton Missionary Baptist Church, where he was loved by all members. 

 Survivors include his wife Phyllis Guinn of New London; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Leanne Guinn of Overton, David and Danielle Guinn of Kilgore, and Gregory and Michelle Guinn of Tatum;  his sister and brother-in-law, Paulette and Bruce Duncan; 10 grandchildren, Dakota, Dustie and husband John Michael, Jonathan, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Evie, Patrick,Logan, Lyla and Maddox; and 2 great grandchildren, Piper and a sweet bundle of joy that is on the way.

Pallbearers will be W. D. Stovall, Jim Dees, Davis Massey, Dakota Guinn, Jonathan Guinn, and John Michael Florey. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Kelley and Logan Guinn.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Saturday, May 5.
