Obituary of Hubert Leon Carlisle

    Memorial services for Hubert Leon Carlisle, 82, of Arp, will be at  2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in the Omen Missionary Baptist Church near Arp with Reverend Scotty Short officiating.  Arrangements are under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel, Overton

    Mr. Carlisle passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 in a hospice facility in Tyler. He was born October 13, 1935 in Arp to the late Jewel Oscar and Minnie Evelyn Lewis Carlisle and lived all his life in the Arp area. He is a veteran of the US Army and served from 1955 to 1958. He married Margaret Jeanette Carlile December 29, 1961 in Arp and was a good and faithful provider. He retired from Goodyear Tire Company where he worked from 1966 to 1996 as a tire builder. He loved woodworking, fishing, and watching and feeding the birds.  

    Leon was a born again child of God and a faithful member of the Omen Missionary Baptist Church. He served as song leader, church secretary, Sunday school teacher, usher and door greater. He took care of the church yard and prepared the baptistry for Christians who wished to be baptized. He was a member of the Mens Brotherhood, always prayed before each meal and loved the Lord and was a faithful servant of God. 

    Besides his parents, Mr. Carlisle was also preceded in death by six siblings, Raymond Carlisle, Jack Carlisle, Kathleen Grant, Verna Mae Robertson, and Willa Dean Haire.

    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret Carlisle of Arp; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Kay Carlisle and Shane Lee of Mena, Arkansas; a sister, Jo Ann Carlisle Duty of Troup; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Renea Corzo, Brandon Lee and Ryan Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    In lieu of flowers, but memorial to made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Boulevard, Tyler, Texas 75701. The family request that no flowers be delivered to the church.
