Dorothy Lucas (Olkowski)

Obituary of Dorothy Lou Lucas (Olkowski)

Dorothy was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on March 4, of 1940 to the late John Casimir Olkowski and Pauline LaChance. She passed away in Tyler, at Hospice of East Texas Home Place on February 6, 2018.

Dorothy was from a large family and enjoyed every minute of being a kid.   When she left home she moved to California where she spent most of her life until recently when she came to East Texas to be closer to family

She was preceded in death by her father John Olkowski; mother and stepfather Pauline and Joseph LaFreniere; sister, Diane Cross; brother, Robert LaFreniere; also she has a son, Bobby Charbonneau of New York, whom she had not heard from since 9-11.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Charboneau of Trinity Texas; four sisters, Patricia Harris and husband Fred of Arp; Bonita Gonzalez and husband Vincent of Beverly Hills, Florida; Jean Wasaulawski and husband  Robert of Easthampton, Massachusetts; and Cindy Kocor of Chicopee, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, James Spears and his wife Emily, Mellissa Sanders, and  Frankie Guzman all of Trinity,  and David Sanders of Liberty; and eight great grandchildren.

Dorothy will be remembered by her family and friends as a very talented and forgiving person. She was an artist and said she would paint anything from a picture on canvas in oil, which she sold; to painting a house in latex, and she did. She loved the brush. She was also a musician and could play any musical instrument that was placed in her hands. She especially loved the accordion and piano. She loved working in the yard and that is where she was every morning. She also enjoyed fishing with her grandson. Her favorite TV shows were Sci-Fi.

She was a lifetime member of the VFW ladies auxiliary. Even though she lived in Texas, she said she was still a California girl.
