Obituary of Clara Arnold
Services for Clara Arnold, 101, Arp, are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, September 15 at the First United Methodist Church, Arp with the Reverends Ben Simpson, Molly Simpson, and David Banks officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenerzer Cemetery, Arp under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mrs. Arnold died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at her residence. She was born October 16, 1909, in Arp to the late Walter Scott Woolf and Mollie Delora Bradford Woolf. She was a lifetime resident of Arp. She was salutatorian of the Arp High School class of 1926 and graduated from Tyler Commercial College in 1928. After graduation, she worked for Arp Nursery until her marriage in November of 1929.
She worked with her husband in Arnold's Garage from 1943 until his death in 1989. She continued work at the garage until her retirement in 2007, at the age of 98. Arnold's Garage was a Texaco dealer from 1928 until 2007.
She had also served as a Deputy Clerk for Smith County.
Mrs. Arnold served on the Ebenezer Cemetery Board and was its Treasurer for many years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Arp where she was president of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She also served on the church's Administrative Board and was its Financial Secretary.
Mrs. Arnold married Loys Arnold in November 1929. He preceded her in death June 7, 1989. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Arnold, in 1962 and two brothers, Herbert Woolf, in 1988 and Allen Woolf in 1995.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Bess Arnold and Dr. Paul Arnold, all of Tyler and Richard and Barbara Arnold, Arp; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Tim Simpson, Drew Landes, Keith Arnold, Walt Arnold, Wes Arnold, Bill Arnold, and Mack Arnold.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jake Bradford and Bunky Bradford.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Mary Ann Goukas, Mrs. Arnold's caregiver for many years.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of your choice.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 14.
