Obituary of Benita Sue Barton

    Graveside services for Benita Sue Barton, 79, of Leverett’s Chapel, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 at Rusk County Memorial Gardens, near Henderson, with Reverend Freeman Pierce officiating. Services are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.

    Mrs. Barton passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at her residence. She was born December 2, 1938 in Kilgore to the late Palmer and Nedra Ernestine Melancon Whitworth. Mrs. Barton graduated from Kilgore High School in 1957 and from BMI in Longview. She married Jimmy G. ‘Slick’ Barton on August 6, 1959 in Overton and was a homemaker.

    Besides her parents, Sue was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy G. ‘Slick’ Barton March 9, 2010.

    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Glynn Barton, II and his wife Sammie of Henderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristi Joan and Mark Townsend of Leverett’s Chapel; a sister, LaVerne Crutcher of Longview; a sister-in-law, Pat Whitworth of Kilgore; two grandchildren, Christopher Bynum and Aaron Chaney Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Knighton, Mark Townsend and Jerry Crutcher.

    The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 14.
